SOWA Internship Programme
Our internship programme places accounting students inside real client engagements - tax filings, management reports, bookkeeping, and business systems - alongside experienced SOWA accountants. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.

Accounting intern

SOWA Accountants is a modern accounting and advisory firm serving businesses across Uganda. We combine professional accounting expertise with purpose-built technology and we're looking for accounting interns who want to do real work, not filing. What you'll do: You'll be assigned to live client engagements from day one. Work includes bookkeeping and transaction posting, bank reconciliations, VAT and WHT return preparation, payroll processing (PAYE/NSSF), management accounts preparation, and supporting client advisory conversations. What you'll learn: Uganda tax compliance in practice URA filing processes and deadlines IFRS for SMEs and how accounting standards apply to real Ugandan businesses Month-end close, GL reconciliation, and financial statement preparation What you'll gain: Real client exposure, mentorship from qualified accountants, and experience that directly supports your ICPAU professional qualification journey. You'll graduate from this internship with a client portfolio to speak to in interviews — not just theory. Strong interns are considered for permanent positions. Requirements: Pursuing or recently completed a degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce; basic understanding of double-entry bookkeeping; attention to detail; ICPAU student membership is an advantage.
